Laouen has a Bachelor & Master’s degree in Computer Science and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in computational psychiatry. He works on machine learning and deep learning models to improve the understanding of mental states and mental disorders.
Computational Psychiatry is an interdisciplinary field where computational models and algorithms are used to enhance the understanding of mental states, which can be applied to the diagnosis and treatment of mental illnesses like Schizophrenia or Alzheimer’s. In his case, he finds it fascinating that complex phenomena from our brains, which are a complex network composed of hundreds of billions of neurons, can be explored using complex machine learning and deep learning algorithms with hundreds of millions of parameters that are not fully understood, yet it pushes the knowledge in the field.
